What is useful to include in a termination letter

With a termination letter you indicate that you want to end a contract or subscription. In order to process your termination properly and quickly, it is important that you include the correct information in this letter. Unfortunately, many people do not know exactly what should and should not be included in such a letter. Therefore, we list here a number of things that are useful to mention in a cancellation letter.

**Your address**

You always start a cancellation letter with your address. Write your first and last name on the first line, the street and house number on the second line and the zip code and city where you live on the third line.

**Place and date**

Following the addressee's address is the place from which you are sending the letter, followed by the date you are drafting the letter.

Then write or type "Subject:" and follow it up with, for example, "cancellation of State Lottery participation.

Signing

As salutation of a letter of resignation you always use 'Dear Sir/Madam'. This is followed by a comma.

**A paragraph about wanting to stop a subscription or cancel something**

Below the salutation follows a (short) paragraph in which you indicate that you wish to end your subscription or contract or cancel something as of the next expiration date after the date of the letter of cancellation. Under this paragraph you include your name, address, zip code + city, account number, email address and subscription number. Are you going to cancel a lottery? Please mention the lottery numbers you play with.

**A passage about the direct debit authorization and the Right to Verze**t.

Then ask the organization to terminate the direct debit authorization at the same time as your subscription. You may also want to include a passage regarding the Right of Resistance.

**Request written confirmation**

At the bottom of your letter of termination, ask the organization to send a written confirmation of the termination by email to the email address you mentioned earlier in the letter.

**Conclusion and signature**

You always close a cancellation letter with "Sincerely yours," followed by your signature and first and last name.
